Beach towns aren’t always known as culinary destinations. However, on “The Edge of America” we are spoiled with food that will tease your taste buds. We have everything from curried mac and cheese to buckets of steamed crab legs. Don’t feel like you need to leave the beach to dine like a king. We have everything you could possibly want on Folly.

Here’s where to eat:

Best Funky Fare: Jack of Cups

A vegetarian friendly joint with a seasonal menu. This place is known to bring even the “foodies” of Charleston to Folly for a dinner. Make sure you try some of our personal favorites the red curry mac and cheese or the Holy Smoke ricotta toast.  Menu changes with the season so check out their website for a current menu.

Best Sushi: Sushi by Lisa at Drop in Deli

Hands down the best sushi in the Low country. Lisa has been serving up sushi for years and there is a reason why. She serves all the classic sushi rolls but her specialty rolls are where it’s at. Try the Flaming Scorpion which is stuffed with shrimp, mango, cream cheese, almonds, spicy sauce and topped with jalapenos. She is a one woman show Tuesday- Friday 6pm until she runs out.

Best Breakfast: Lost Dog Cafe

Who doesn’t love a café that is all about man’s best friend? Lost Dog is a staple on Folly Beach serving up breakfast and lunch daily. Island favorites are the huevos rancheros and the biscuits and gravy. Make sure you get there early or are prepared for a wait. On the weekend the line can be out the door. They are open M-F 6:30-3:00.

Best Philly Cheesesteak: Surf Bar

No wonder this place has been voted best beach bar by the Charleston City Paper nine years in a row. They have live music most nights, serve a damn good philly cheesesteak, and don’t forget about their famous painkiller cocktail. Make sure you get there before 10pm to grab what some say is the best philly south of Philadelphia.

Best Tacos: Taco Boy

“Skip siesta, Let’s fiesta.” The motto of the legendary Taco Boy holds true for people on Folly. No need to siesta when on the beach. Go by Taco Boy and grab a fried avocado taco, a flight of tequila, and a margarita to wash it all down. Great place for an afternoon bite or a sizzlin’ dinner.

Best Crab Legs: Loggerhead’s Bar and Grill or Crab Shack

A MUST on any beach trip. Head to one these local establishments for a cold beer and a bucket of steamed crab legs. This tasty treat might put you back a pretty penny but you’re on vacay! Indulge a little.

Best Juice: Juice Joint

Well, not really a restaurant but this juice stand is the best place to get yourself feeling 100% before hitting the waves. They have juices, smoothies and a few nibbles (avocado toast, acai bowls). Just a few steps off of Center Street on East Ashley Avenue.

Best Noodles: Chico Feo

Not your typical ramen joint. Funky, outdoor café with an ever-changing menu. Enjoy everything from tacos to pho.  Go enjoy a meal here if you are an adventurous soul. #goodvibesonly

Best View: Bowen’s Island

Technically, not on Folly Beach but a destination not to be missed. Bowen’s Island Restaurant has been serving steamed oysters, Frogmore stew, and fried seafood for over sixty years. It’s a locals place that is shared with the visitors to the area with a smile and a lot of love. Go. Experience. Breathe it in. Smile. You won’t regret it. Open Tuesday-Saturday 5-9:30.
